  • The front of the Bill Lefevre Boys & Girls Club in Ventura was looking a little sad--lots of dirt, rocks and patches of grass. It needed help--and it got it from Anna Guasco, a senior at Ventura High School. Anna started Ventura Eco-Renewal, a nonprofit student organization dedicated to creating awareness about the value of planting drought-tolerant native plant gardens. She decided Eco-Renewal would take on the Boys & Girls Club as its first project.

Anna received a donation of native plants from Nopalito Native Plant Nursery in Ventura including native flowers, bushes and plants, as well as 15 yards of mulch donated by Agromin. She recruited volunteers from her school at the club and everything was planted. For Anna, the effort has been very rewarding. "It's showing kids that science and conservation matter," says Anna. Way to go Anna!
