• Huntington Beach Childrens Shelter Gets a Pretty Garden
    Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at

  • In 2006, the Huntington Beach Childrens Shelter opened its doors. Part of the Community Service Program, the shelter and a second shelter in Laguna Beach, has housed thousands of children between the ages of 11-17 in a safe, caring environment. The Childrens  Shelters offer a short term crisis intervention residential program with the goal of family reunification. Children at risk of homelessness, institutionalization, incarceration or hospitalization are given emergency shelter, meals, 24-hour supervision, individual, group and family counseling, academic tutoring, prevention education, life skills development activities as well as aftercare services.

Agromin was happy to donate 10 cubic yards of Premium Garden Humus and 40 cubic yards of ES-2 Cover Mulch to the Huntington Beach shelter for its flowerbeds, garden and the "Path to Success," which features steps made by children who have lived in the shelter.
The shelter hosts an annual open house, which serves as a fundraiser but also a showcase for the shelter's services. Volunteers from the Huntington Beach Hyatt Resort and Agromin spread the humus and mulch to finish off the landscaping projects in time for the open house.
