• September 20 is Coastal Cleanup Day
    Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 5:11 PM

  • Saturday, September 20 is a day we can all do our part to clean up our beaches and inland creeks and streams. It's the 30th annual Ventura County Coastal Cleanup Day for 9:00 a.m. to noon.

Volunteering is easy. Just show up at 9:00 a.m. at one of the designated cleanup locations around the county. Be sure to bring gloves and drinking water. To find a location, go to http://www.vccoastcleanup.org/ You'll also need to sign and bring a participation waiver (located on the website).

That's it! You'll be joining 60,000 volunteers around the state who are helping keep our beaches and waterways clean. Last year, volunteers picked up 674,234 pounds of trash and an additional 75,089 pounds of recyclable materials, for a total of 749,323 pounds or 375 tons.

For cleanup sites around the state, go to  http://www.coastal.ca.gov/publiced/ccd/ccd.html
