• Get A Free Bag of Agromin Potting Soil at Santa Barbara Earth Day

  • Be sure to pick up a free bag of Agromin's potting soil at the Santa Barbara Earth Day Festival. Hosted by the Community Environmental Council, the festival takes place over two days--April 22 and 23 at Alameda Park in Santa Barbara.

Santa Barbara, by accident, was instrumental in the creation of Earth Day. In 1969, a massive oil spill from an oil platform occurred off the Santa Barbara coast. It drew nationwide attention to the negative impact of what humans were doing to the environment. Visiting the area shortly after the spill was Senator Gaylord Nelson, the founder of Earth Day. Not long after, the first Earth Day took place in 1970.
