  • Rio del Mar Elementary School in Oxnard recently completed construction on 10, 4'x12' garden planters as part of its new outdoor classroom learning space that incorporates STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) concepts in gardening and permaculture.

Students are learning the science behind planting and maintaining their vegetable garden as well as the importance of eating fresh, healthy produce. Families are also encouraged to help in the garden so it's truly a family affair.

Agromin was happy to provide 30 bags of planting mix for the planter boxes plus 45 yards of ES2 mulch for the school's small fruit orchard. The mulch keeps the tree roots cool, which mean better water retention. Mulch around trees prevents erosion during rainy weather and keeps weeds from sprouting.

The students are well on their way to an excellent growing and learning season!
